Today, energy healing is being used in Nursing homes and in respite care units worldwide. Reported benefits include better sleeping routines, a calming effect and noticeable mood improvements.
Some nursing homes have in house nurses giving energy treatments while others have structured volunteer programmes.
It is amazing how even a few minutes of energy treatment can improve a person’s day.
The elderly often have stomach challenges and energy healing directed to this area, is usually appreciated. As the solar plexus area also holds on to anxiety and fear, the energy when applied here can have a calming effect.
Research in the US has shown that energy healing can reduce stress, anxiety, and pain in elderly patients with dementia. Participants in adult daycare are the primary beneficiaries; however, staff members and caregivers are the secondary beneficiaries. Patients are more relaxed and more social and experience less pain, staff members find them more willing to participate in group activities. Caregivers and families find their loved ones less anxious, less depressed, and less irritable.
Others who may benefit include people with headache, backache or arthritis. In addition, the application of energy healing as a complementary therapy for cancer has also created interest. There is strong anecdotal evidence to suggest that energy healing can, in certain cases, arrest and even regress, the growth of cancerous cells.
Most of the benefits reported with energy healing are based on the personal experiences of those who receive treatment and those who administer it. However, one researcher who explored the usefulness of energy treatment in conjunction with opioid therapy to treat pain caused by a variety of reasons, including cancer, reported a statistically significant reduction in pain following energy treatment (Olson and Hanson, 1997).
